We’ve all had them — students who cause trouble, play on their cell phones all night, are disrespectful, and generally seem mad at the world. Although we love these teenagers as much as we love the others, sometimes it feels like we’re constantly sacrificing the quality of the ministry to all the other kids for the sake of that one (or three or whatever).

When I had my first encounter with this kind of situation, my sr. pastor at the time gave me this advice and I’ve followed it ever since: “Never sacrifice the ministry to all the kids for the sake of one or even a couple.” If, because of one or a couple disruptive students, other kids in the group are not receiving the attention they crave, the spiritual input they seek, and the time to focus on God that they need, then a course of action is needed. read the rest here

Chambersburg YMCA

The Chambersburg YMCA has January 10^th and March 14^th available for a multi-denominational youth night. The YMCA’s Christian Emphasis Committee has discussed making one of these Saturday nights an almost anything goes Olympic team format event for the church youth groups in our community.

If you are not familiar with the almost anything goes format, the evening would be filled with challenging group events in which the church youth groups would score points and receive prizes for their team’s efforts. There would also be a Christian speaker and refreshments as part of this event’s format. All of this would be free to the participating youth groups.

Do you think FCYN would be interested and support an event of this nature? Please advise.

Yesterdays meeting

We had a great time yesterday at Bestway Pizza. I believe we had 10 people in attendance. We had a great time just talking a touching base with each other.

Brian Kramer started a great discussion when he asked about locking the doors at certain time. We talked about students arriving late, leaving early, outside threats and how our ministries handle this. (MY INTERPRETATION). I have been thinking about it a lot since that discussion.

We talked about various times to get away and simply spend with God.

Brian Kramer and Mark from King Street invited us to go hiking with them once a month for a couple of hours. If I understand correctly we will go to Tumbling Rocks and then go our own way for an 1hour or 2 to spend with God. We would meet back and then go eat lunch together. Dates will be coming soon.

Brad Varner from young life invited us to pray Monday Mornings at CASHS. It will be a prayer walk around the high school. Starting at 9:00 AM. Dates will be coming for this as well.

Our next meeting is November 12th, 8:30 am at St. Pauls. Hope to see you there.

I was wondering how you manage and track who is there and who is not? Do you follow up on students when they miss several weeks? Do you let them know they were missed? In a culture that is impacted so much by relationships students simply want to be known. Do they know that we KNOW they were not there?

I struggle with this. Tim shares some good thoughts on his blog. What do you think?
